Raising the Bar in Lihir
On the back of completion of the Lihir Gold Mine Semi Autonomous Grinding (SAG) Ball Mill Feeder project, Newcrest Mining recently utilised their in-house publication “Raising The Bar”, to feature the success of the project, new technology and innovations that have added to the operation.
“Lihir continues to improve its operation through innovative projects that enhance outputs and safety, reduce cost and promote an owner’s mindset. In November 2018, the Project & Engineering team in collaboration with business partners Walz and CEQ started on a project that significantly reflects Lihir’s Transformation 2 journey in reaching full potential” the publication explains.
The project has automated much of the manual handling tasking done by operators, reducing high risk lifting tasks as identified by Newcrest’s Critical Control Management System.
CEQ’s investment in continual training and development of national employees across PNG, was demonstrated in the provision of electrical workers for the SAG project, after receiving commendations from Newcrest Mining regarding the quality of workmanship on site post a NIL defect walk through on site. CEQ Operations Manager Paul Bertinato credits the commitment and tenacity of CEQ expatriate electrical supervisors Jason Pennings and Frank Tyler in producing such a successful outcome, often in trying conditions.
